ALLISON DAYTON
Allison live in Salt Lake with her husband Kenn. They have three amazing grown children and one son-in-law. As the mother of an LGBTO child and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Allison has learned to rely on the Lord and trust the inspiration she’s received. Her goal is to keep all of her children connected to their Savior and to teach them to face life with courage and confidence in who they are as a Child of God.
Allison grew up in an LGBTQ family. Her oldest brother, Preston, was gay. Raising a gay child in the 70s and 80s, her parents were on their own to navigate what it meant to be an openly gay family in the church. It was not easy and neither they nor her brother felt supported. But they did the best they could. In 2017, her brother took his own life. At the same time, her oldest son was starting his own painful process of coming out. Allison says that her brother's painful life was “a total gift” to her. Through the good and the bad, the sad and the joyful, she learned what she needed to know to raise a healthy gay son.
Because of the journey she has been on and the blessings that have come to her family because of their LGBTQ child, she wanted to do more to help other LGBTQ families, wards and leaders support these most precious children of our Heavenly Parents. The Lift + Love foundation, instagram account @liftandloveorg and website www.liftandlove.org are for the sole purpose of supporting, teaching and empowering LGBTQ + LDS families.
